Governor DeStantis ordered supervisors of elections for all Florida counties to remove registered Democrats from the active voters category if they had not voted in the previous four years. I don't know how many counties did that but that was when the number of active registered Democrats went below the number of registered Republicans.
So this is not entirely accurate. After 2020, all counties went through a process of purging voters and relegating those with no history for four years to the "inactive" roll - which is not removed. I did work for the FDP analyzing the lists of purged voters - and these included folks from both parties - and all reflected deaths and moves. There was no mass purge that didn't reflect regular voter roll cleanup. Broward, for example, had tens of thousands of purges alone, and its run by a newly-elected Democratic Supervisor. No nefariousness there.
Republicans and Democrats saw tens of thousands purged from the rolls. This always happens. But Republicans, thanks to their money, were able to register new voters, while Democrats had very little cash for a field program to register new folks.
The registration changes have nothing to do with purges - but are a reflection of the resource issues.
Id argue a more likely nefarious issue was the DeSantis election police force scaring some voters away. But that is still something being investigated (and wouldnt have made up the difference). But expect more on that down the line.
Thank you for expanding on the original statement. It was my understanding that not all Supervisors complied with the purges. I volunteered at the polls for the primary and regular election days. We only had 46% vote for the general election but that was diminished by between 20-30 people I saw that weren't aware they had been redistricted. Most of them came after work and didn't have time to get to their new polling place. This didn't include the vote by mail. Yes, the Democratic party leadership seemed unable to cope with this election.

More great stuff. Thanks!
