Dear readers, thank you for signing up for my substack-powered elections newsletter! My goal with this newsletter is to offer weekly updates on elections - with a particular Florida focus.
The first official piece will go live in a few days. The topic will be Nikki Fried’s 2018 election as Florida Agriculture Commissioner. Fried is expected to announce a gubernatorial run in the next few days and she currently is the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida.
In the meantime, I wanted run a test article to make sure all the bugs are worked out.
Gambling in Florida
I just wrapped up an article breaking down gambling in the state of Florida. This is in response to the state passing a massive new compact with the Seminole Tribe; which will lead to a huge expansion of gambling in the state.
The compact passed the legislature, but saw plenty of drama. In addition to covering the compact, I dived into the history of gambling in Florida; covering legislative actions and a litany of ballot measures on slots, casinos, racing, and the lottery.
